Modern Slavery Act 2015
Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement 2026
This statement outlines the actions Muttuo Mortgages has taken to understand potential modern slavery risks related to its business and to implement measures that aim to prevent slavery and human trafficking within its operations and supply chains.
This statement pertains to actions and activities during the financial year ending 2026. As a responsible business, we recognise that we have a vital role to play in combating modern slavery and human trafficking. We remain fully committed to enhancing our practices to prevent these abuses.
Our structure and supply chains
Muttuo Mortgages operates within the UK financial services sector, offering mortgage products and related services to our customers. We employ our staff directly in the UK and maintain a relatively short, straightforward supply chain.
Since we operate within the financial services sector, we view our overall risk of modern slavery and human trafficking as low. Nevertheless, we never take this for granted and stay alert across all parts of our business.
Our policies on slavery and human trafficking
We are committed to ensuring there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or any part of our business. Our internal policies reflect our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships.
Key policies include:
- Anti-slavery and human trafficking policy: Explicitly details our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and sets out the expectations we have of our staff and partners.
- Whistleblowing policy: Encourages all workers, customers, and business partners to report any concerns related to the direct activities or supply chains.
- Supplier code of conduct: Requires all suppliers to confirm that they provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, and act ethically and in compliance with the law.
Due diligence processes
We take practical steps to monitor and mitigate the risk of modern slavery occurring within our supply chains. Before we engage with any new supplier, we conduct rigorous due diligence.
Our processes include:
- Assessing the modern slavery and human trafficking risks associated with each new supplier.
- Conducting background checks on recruitment agencies we engage to source staff, ensuring their compliance with UK employment laws.
- Including specific prohibitions against the use of forced, compulsory, or trafficked labour in our standard commercial contracts.
Risk assessment and management
We regularly review our business operations and supply chains to identify and manage potential risks. We recognise that our greatest potential exposure is within indirect services, such as facilities management and the procurement of IT hardware.
To manage these risks, we:
- Audit our most significant suppliers to ensure they meet our ethical standards.
- Require suppliers in higher-risk categories to provide evidence of their own modern slavery policies and due diligence processes.
- Reserve the right to terminate contracts with suppliers that fail to improve their practices if we identify instances of non-compliance.
Training and awareness
To ensure a thorough understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking, we provide targeted training to our staff.
All employees involved in procurement, human resources, and supplier management must complete mandatory modern slavery training each year. This training helps our team recognise the signs of modern slavery and details the exact steps they should take if they suspect an issue. We also provide annual awareness briefings to all staff across the organisation.
Looking ahead: Our future steps
During 2026, we plan to build on our existing framework by taking the following steps:
- Reviewing and updating our Supplier Code of Conduct to ensure it aligns with the latest best practices.
- Implementing an enhanced risk-assessment matrix for all new suppliers before they are onboarded.
- Expanding our modern slavery awareness training to include a module specifically designed for our senior leadership team.
